Alice Pauli. Gallerist, Collector, Art Patron
14 February - 4 May 2025
Musée cantonal des beaux-arts de Lausanne - MCBA
Alongside Pierre Soulages, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, and Sam Francis, Alicia Penalba’s work is honoured with a room entirely dedicated to her artistic legacy. This space showcases exceptional historical sculptures, graphic works, and jewellery that Alice Pauli integrated into her collection during her lifetime.
As a tribute to Alice Pauli’s generosity, the exhibition celebrates the extraordinary journey of a pioneer. Featuring leading figures of international contemporary art alongside key personalities from the Swiss art scene, the display brings together artists whose work this exceptional woman had been eager to see brought together and showcased in a single venue.
The creations of major international contemporary artists, including Louise Nevelson, Giuseppe Penone, Pierre Soulages, and Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, reflect encounters made at the International Pilot Gallery Salon. Her connections with the Swiss art scene are illustrated through works by Louis Soutter, Jean Lecoultre, and Juan Martínez. A room dedicated to the Polish and Yugoslavian art scenes of the 1960s, as well as the one focused on Alicia Penalba’s work, underscore the talent of a true forerunner, a woman driven by the desire to share with people everywhere both her passion for art and the emotions it sparked within her.
